Personal computers, as an idea, began as a fairly simple one. Reduce the size of computers to the point where it can be used by families in their homes without having to build an entire room to house the hardware. Apple did an amazing job of perpetuating this idea with its products and the industry has never looked back.
These days, personal computers have taken on a more complicated meaning. They still need to be small, portable, and must house technology that allow them to, well, compute. However, the technology has since fractured to several branches to include calculators, smartphones, video game consoles, handheld video game gadgets, and of course, artificial intelligence products. This has made discussions regarding personal computers much less straightforward.
